Alejandra Mora Gallego, operating partner at ALAS Vivienda Asequible, took part in the event “Housing from the non-profit sector: key factors for consolidating social housing providers in Spain”, held on 23 June in Málaga.
Her contribution focused on a key message: transparency and good governance are essential to demonstrate the social impact of the Housing Associations model and to consolidate housing as a long-term and stable asset.
The event, organised by ALIVAS (Alianza por la Vivienda Asequible y Social) at the Fundación Unicaja Cultural Centre, brought together representatives from the public sector, social organisations, experts and financial stakeholders to analyse the conditions needed to scale up an affordable housing provision model that is removed from speculative logic.
Among the prominent voices at the event were:
- Gerardo Lerones, Fundación Unicaja.
- Gema Gallardo Pérez, Asociación Provivienda.
- Francisco Javier Pomares Fuertes, Ayuntamiento de Málaga.
- Bernd Riessland, Housing Europe.
- Elena Pellicer Pio, UPF Barcelona School of Management.
- Jose María Escolastoco Sánchez, AVS / Housing Europe.
They all agreed on one central idea: Spain needs a regulatory framework that recognises and strengthens social housing providers, offering them legal certainty and facilitating access to financing so they can expand stable and affordable housing solutions.
In the final discussion panel, moderated by Josune Huidobro Rodríguez (Provivienda), Alejandra Mora shared the session with jose maria lopez cerezo (AVS), Eduardo Gutiérrez (ALIVAS) and Enrique Martín Barragán – MRICS (Afi), highlighting the importance of moving towards a public-social collaboration model that makes it possible to scale up and ensure the sustainability of Spain’s affordable housing stock.
The event took place within the framework of the project “Alliances for affordable housing from the non-profit sector”, financed by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda, with the collaboration of AVS Gestores Públicos, Fundación Unicaja and Málaga City Council.
At ALAS Vivienda Asequible, we continue working to promote models that guarantee decent, stable and affordable housing for everyone.
