Alejandra Mora, Operating Partner at ALAS, participated in the round table discussion ‘Social and affordable housing. Challenges and transformative opportunities’ as part of the VI Camino al Impacto (Path to Impact) event organised by SpainNAB at CaixaForum Madrid.

During her speech, Alejandra stressed the importance of the fact that ‘housing has finally entered the impact investment debate, and that is a great achievement’. She also highlighted the three premises of ALAS Vivienda Asequible: ‘to provide and operate affordable rental housing, and to preserve that housing with a long-term vision’.

‘The preservation and management of this rental housing on a large scale and in the long term is what is new, because it had not been done in Spain until now.’

He also pointed out that ALAS is an SBIC (Sociedad de Beneficio e Interés Común, or Common Benefit and Interest Company) that combines the best of two worlds: the social economy, with the experience of SALAS and foundations such as Fundació Nou Lloc and Fundació SALAS, and private capital committed to sustainability and social impact.

Alejandra, along with the other speakers, Jose Manuel Caballol from HOGAR SÍ, Eduardo Gutiérrez from Asociación Provivienda and Mario Yoldi Dominguez, Director of Housing Planning and Operational Processes at Eusko Jaurlaritza, agreed on the urgency of mobilising private capital on a large scale to respond to the housing challenge:

‘We are facing a large-scale housing supply challenge, as was the case in the 19th century.’

Thanks to SpainNAB and Miguel Tiana Alvarez, CEO of COFIDES, for moderating this panel and promoting such a necessary debate.

At ALAS, we continue to work to attract impact investment that will make affordable, sustainable and quality housing accessible to all.
